Developers And Users, Copyrightable Code, Mobile Apps Gone Bad and HTML5 Tools
Put the developers in some contact with the users. Good idea.......normally ;-).
http://www.javaworld.com/javaworld/jw-11-2011/111129-how-devops-can-speed-app-dev.html
Interesting. The code to do something is copyrightable but not the something. Hmmmmm.......
http://www.javaworld.com/javaworld/jw-11-2011/111129-programming-languages-and-copyright.html
When mobile apps go bad.....or just are bad.
If an app works better in the browser than as a native app, something is very wrong...
http://www.javaworld.com/javaworld/jw-11-2011/111129-programming-languages-and-copyright.html
Cool tools for coding HTML5, etc.

Tablet Future, 2011 Reflections, Needed Apps and Home Surveillance
Interesting note on tablets. I do think they will fade, especially if
cross-platforming between Android/WP7 and the desktop happens.
http://www.techrepublic.com/blog/tablets/tablet-relevance-in-comparison-to-the-netbook-timeline/573
Neat reflections by Justin James on 2011.

Cool thoughts on mobile apps that need to be developed.
http://www.techrepublic.com/blog/smartphones/smartphone-apps-that-need-to-be-created-in-2012/4005
One thing that has intrigued me is home surveillance. Cool series on such.

Worst CEO, SOPA, Raises and IT Trends
IT outlook for 2012 looks promising. Maybe it's time for a change ;-).
http://www.computerworld.com/s/article/9222653/Entry_level_IT_jobs_will_be_plentiful_in_2012_experts_predict
Steve Ballmer was the third-worst CEO (by votes) in IT. It also shows the
Xeorx chief as #1. Wasn't she just promoted to such a couple of months
ago?
http://blogs.computerworld.com/19420/microsofts_steve_ballmer_is_rated_third_worst_tech_company_ceo
What I have asked in response to those lambasting anything SOPA-like. If
the greed and everything else upsets you, go do it all yourself.
http://www.infoworld.com/t/cringely/just-in-internet-not-solely-populated-pirates-and-thieves-181742
Really cool note on asking for a raise.

Privacy, Cloud Supercomputer, Free Privacy and SOPA
Fast compiles? Quote:
I sometimes fear we have lost something as well. Patience, careful consideration, attention to detail, and maybe solid planning.
http://blogs.msdn.com/b/alfredth/archive/2011/12/22/one-compile-a-day.aspx
Interesting notes on the non-existent supercomputer ;-).
http://www.wired.com/wiredenterprise/2011/12/nonexistent-supercomputer
Amen! Free is the now expected.......ironic I posted here......
http://www.elezea.com/2011/12/facebook-ads-and-you/
I do think SOPA is a tad draconian. But something should be done. This is simply a "what can happen" comment.

Windows Phone Survival, Gamification, Code Analysis and Software Design
I think this guy is right on. And I think that MS can actually be better than both existing top phone dogs.
http://www.geekwire.com/2011/how-microsoft-survives-phone-wars
Gamification sucks?
http://inessential.com/2011/12/23/gamification_sucks

Random.....
Very cool. Free iPhone dev courses.
http://www.infoworld.com/t/development-tools/stanford-posts-six-free-online-iphone-app-dev-courses-179415
Interesting. Makes me want to actually understand and develop db apps....

Interesting twist in one huge botnet take down.

Windows 8 App Store, IT Hiring and Languages
Cool for enterprise folks. Distribute Win 8 apps via their store. Now, that could be fraught with problems.....
http://www.zdnet.com/blog/microsoft/microsoft-to-offer-windows-8-business-users-a-way-to-distribute-private-apps/11349
IT is hiring......but not just anyone.

Old, but probably still valid. 7 languages on the rise.

Notes On Programmers, Facebook, Web Hogs and Free Web Services
Mature programmers........
http://cbloomrants.blogspot.com/2011/11/11-22-11-mature-programmer.html
Interesting. I'll have to watch the interview when I get a chance.

Bandwidth hogs don't exist. Not surprised.

Interesting. Don't use free web services.

Apple To Remove Carrier IQ, Java Language Is King, Thai Hard Drives and Cool Web Gaming
Cool. Mouse lock and using game pads.
http://hacks.mozilla.org/2011/12/paving-the-way-for-open-games-on-the-web-with-the-gamepad-and-mouse-lock-apis/
Apple named in CarrierIQ lawsuit......but at least they are actively getting rid of it.............so they say.
http://www.computerworld.com/s/article/9222424/8_companies_hit_with_lawsuit_over_Carrier_IQ_software
Ummmmmm.....not sure I would ever refer to programming anything as "sexy". As cool as it may be, that's a reserved word for me.
http://www.computerworld.com/s/article/9222432/C_wins_developers_but_Java_still_reigns
This is interesting simply in that it shows that Thailand accounts for 40 - 45% of worldwide hard disk drive production.

Code Review, Comment Review and Safety Review
Some good thoughts on doing code review. In a nutshell, do it. And think about why you do it.

Some thoughts from TechRepublic

Some thoughts from TechRepublic
Take a moment before you touch the keyboard and ask yourself:
- Will what I’m about to say solve the problem I’m having with this person or is it just satisfying my need to lash out?
- Is what I’m about to type a productive comment or am I just feeding my desire to call someone an idiot and, indirectly, make myself feel superior?
- Am I addressing the right person about this problem? For example, if an ad feed is messing up a page, the blogger has nothing to do with it. If the website is having a problem, the blogger has nothing to do with it. If there is a typo, there is a way to point it out without calling the blogger’s character into question.
